Taking a Fresh Approach to Family Chiropractic Care in Elkhorn

We take a different approach to chiropractic than most traditional chiropractors. We are a functional-based chiropractic clinic, which means we look at how your body moves through everyday movements and functions and then provide the correct treatment plan to address any movement imbalances.

Understanding habitual movement patterns, where discomfort stems from, and how the body supports you are essential to finding the cause of pain, motion loss, inadequate mobility, and more.

Many people seek chiropractic care for pain relief, and we definitely want to help you get rid of that pain. But we also want to address why that pain came in the first place. Once we know the cause, we can effectively treat the symptom. Doing this helps stave off future injury — hopefully for good!

No one wants to be in pain, and we don’t want your pain to come back again and again. Both Dr. Nolan and Dr. Whitney experienced the cycle of having pain and getting treatment, only for the pain to come back a couple of months later. It wasn’t until each was treated by functional chiropractors, who addressed the underlying causes of our pain, that real change and improvement were made.

While we treat pain, helping to manage it now and in the future, we know that the best approach to your health should never be reactive but proactive.

We aim to prevent injuries and discomfort by ensuring your movements keep your body safe and strong. We do this through natural chiropractic care and our other holistic specialties, including sports performance and women’s health.

Fresh Approach to Family Chiropractic Care

What does chiropractic care look like?

Our care starts with a thorough exam, which includes your case history, movement assessment, neurological exam, and orthopedic tests. Your first visit will last about 45 minutes, which ensures that we will handle your care in the most efficient and effective way. In most cases, some form of treatment will begin on day one, and you will most likely receive a take-home exercise.

Follow-up visits typically last 15-30 minutes, and you will spend that entire time with your chiropractor.

Your treatment may include:

Is chiropractic care safe?

Chiropractic care is absolutely safe! The natural, non-invasive, hands-on care we provide in our office is intentional and trusted, and it’s usually what the body will respond to best. However, chiropractic solutions are more than safe; they’re also simple, effective, and lasting.

Using various services that complement each other, most patients heal better and faster than they would by using pain-masking medications or going through difficult, expensive surgery that requires days, weeks, or months of downtime to recover from.

Because every medical intervention has risks, we screen each patient before treatment begins, ensuring your unique health plan will be both responsible and effective.

Is chiropractic safe for pregnant women, children, and infants?

Chiropractic consists of gentle, organic techniques that get great results, making this kind of care safe and smart for pregnant women, children, and infants.

We don’t adjust babies the same way we would an adult or even an older child. Chiropractic care for our littlest patients is very delicate but still effective, without any twisting or popping. At Midwest Movement, our team is well-versed in supporting children of all ages through a chiropractic plan that meets their body’s developing needs and abilities.

Family chiropractic

What if I can’t be or don’t want to be adjusted?

We offer a variety of treatments because each patient is distinctive, and each patient has different challenges, concerns, and goals for treatment. Your care should be as individualized as you are, and you’ll never see a generalized approach in our clinic.

Not everyone wants to be adjusted, and chiropractic adjustments aren’t for everyone. We have many options to help you feel and move better — not only chiropractic adjustments. We’ll find the best approach for your specific case, and if it’s not something we can provide in our chiropractic clinic, we’ll help get you to the right people.

chiropractic care solutions and services

Our chiropractic care solutions and services

Our team is trained in many chiropractic care techniques, and we design wellness plans that can feature any number of them. The goal is to get your body fully healed and functioning as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Our bodies are experts at compensating, so if one joint isn’t moving enough, another will often begin to move too much to make up for the lost motion at the stuck joint. This will strain new joints and can lead to further injury or worsened pain. Let our chiropractic care stop your pain and help you avoid future injuries.

Some of our solutions include:

chiropractic adjustment in Elkhorn

Chiropractic adjustments

Chiropractic adjustments (also called chiropractic manipulation or spinal manipulation) are used to restore function and motion to joints in the spine or other areas of the body that have reduced movement.

Our office typically uses hands-on adjusting rather than an adjusting tool or instrument. Adjusting will often result in a popping sound, which occurs when the space between joint surfaces increases briefly.

Our Elkhorn chiropractors will first determine which joints can benefit from adjusting through palpation or by taking the joints through their ranges of motion and feeling which areas aren’t moving appropriately. Next, we’ll adjust the affected joints in order to decrease pain and tightness and increase mobility.

Chiropractic adjustments introduce motion into restricted or stuck joints, which improves range of motion and increases sensory input to the brain at that specific joint. Better movement and sensation generally lead to less pain.

Rehabilitative exercise

Rehabilitative exercise

Exercising is mandatory for your overall health. Not only does it strengthen the body, but it’s been proven to contribute to mental and emotional health as well. Our clinic knows this to be true and designs rehabilitative exercise programs for our patients. This is a quintessential step in your recovery.

Combining your exercise plan with chiropractic solutions, your body will find a better balance as it becomes more flexible, moves responsibly, and gets stronger.

women's health

Women’s health

Finding safe, non-aggressive, effective care for women throughout pregnancy and after is often a difficult task. Chiropractic care is an excellent resource for pregnant and postpartum patients. We ensure you’re confident in our techniques and engage in a thoughtful, open dialogue.

For many of the most common women’s health conditions, chiropractic care is most effective when paired with rehabilitative exercise and pelvic floor therapy.

Whether you have low back pain, trouble sleeping in comfort, difficulty sitting at a desk all day, or anything in between, our chiropractors are ready to help you find the best chiropractic care for your individual needs.

Other natural solutions offered:

As family chiropractors, we can safely utilize many of our techniques on infants, young children, and teens through seniors. Chiropractic care can help maintain proper motion at all levels, reducing your risk of future injuries and keeping your body protected.

How long will it take until I’m better?

You may have heard that if you see a chiropractor once, then you have to see them forever.

That’s not the case with us.

The short answer for how long it will take for you to get better: it depends. For most patients, after your initial visit, it typically takes 4-8 visits to control your pain, and then another 6-12 visits to retrain how you move, introduce strengthening, and prepare you for a safe return to your activity or sport.

We tend to see that patients who are more compliant with home exercise recommendations report faster progress and have fewer flare-ups.

We want you to leave our care better than you were before it. We don’t believe in long-term care plans, just long-term solutions.

A year ago I was in a rear end car accident and got terrible whiplash. I went to Nolan at Midwest movement who had me doing exercises from our first meeting to help me get back to work and back to normal every day life. Everything Nolan suggested we tried (after being a little stubborn) we did dry needling and every day exercises. Nolan set me up for success in a way that I can do my exercises now if I ever have any pain. He’s also helped with ongoing shoulder and wrist pains I 100% would recommend Midwest movement of Elkhorn!
