When Should You Get a Sports Massage?

When Should You Get a Sports Massage?

There are three main times to use sports massage therapy:

  • Pre-event massage – Fast-paced, energizing massage to warm up muscles and boost circulation

  • Post-event massage – Slower, recovery-focused work to reduce soreness and inflammation

  • Maintenance massage – Regular bodywork to prevent injuries, improve mobility, and keep you moving well

Many clients benefit from bi-weekly or monthly sessions, depending on training intensity or work demands.

What to Expect in a Session

Sports massage often includes:

  • Assessment of movement, pain, or performance issues

  • Specific work on problem areas (like hip flexors, rotator cuff, or calves)

  • Active or passive stretching

  • Therapist-guided mobility drills

  • Education on recovery techniques (e.g., foam rolling, movement prep)

You may be sore after a session, but most people feel significantly better within 24–48 hours.
