Embracing Pregnancy Transformations: A Chiropractor’s Perspective

with Dr. Whitney Haase

As a women’s health-focused chiropractor, I see get the opportunity to work with many expecting mothers. Understandably, many of these women are both excited and terrified for all of the physical changes that come with pregnancy. In this post, I want to:

  1. Provide more detail for some of these exceptional changes.

  2. Help women shift their mindset regarding some of these changes, reframing these adaptations as features, rather than flaws of their bodies.

Let’s exploring the physical metamorphosis that expectant mothers undergo.

From abdominal expansion to shifting center of gravity, each change is a testament to the miraculous process of nurturing new life. One notable transformation is abdominal expansion and separation, which is essential for accommodating the growing baby. Simultaneously, the body’s center of gravity shifts, rib cage expands, and joint mobility increases. If you’ve ever been pregnant, then you’ll know this can feel like a lot. While these changes may seem daunting, they are indispensable adaptations facilitating both the safe development and birth of the baby as well being incredibly protective for the mother.

Pregnancy Changes: A Chiropractor’s Perspective

It’s crucial to reframe these physical changes as features, not flaws. They safeguard against many complications, most notably pelvic floor prolapse, acid reflux, and reduced lung capacity. Imagine the consequences if these changes didn’t occur — excessive pressure could lead to discomfort and health risks for both you and your little one.

By understanding and embracing these changes, pregnant women can navigate their journey with confidence and resilience. Through our upcoming blog and video series, we aim to address common pregnancy complaints stemming from these physical transitions.

Join us as we celebrate the marvels of pregnancy and empower expectant mothers to embrace their bodies’ remarkable capabilities. Together, let’s embark on this transformative journey with grace and gratitude. Stay tuned for next week’s post on managing common pregnancy discomforts.
